English Language lessons from a native speaker using the Callan method of teaching
The Callan Method has its origins in the 1960s. Callan Methodology has been conducting research for its development and validation for 15 years. The method has received very positive reviews among the leading authorities in teaching English. Due to the rapid pace of learning, schools using the Callan Method prepare more students for Cambridge exams than other schools teach.
The two biggest enemies of learning are boredom and poor memory. Callan's method overcomes boredom by speed and weak memory by repetition. Repeating all four or five times guarantees not only a high speed of speaking and understanding but also a sustained memory of acquired knowledge, no matter how poor the memory of a student.
Another advantage of Callan Method is that it overcomes the shyness of the student. Many students while learning a foreign language are afraid to speak. In Callan's method, which is based mostly on question-and-answer work, the student is forced to speak and consequently quickly overcomes his anxiety.
As can be seen from the above, if a student is forced to speak and listen through the whole lesson, then in consequence, unwillingly, he is forced to learn. It is not possible for a student learning the Callan Method to be passive during classes. The method, forcing students to learn, makes them enthusiastic because they feel they have achieved something.
Of the four aspects of learning a foreign language - reading, writing, speaking, and understanding - speaking is usually considered the hardest. As mentioned earlier, a student learning Callan Method is forced not only to listen all the time but also to speak, because during class he answers a large number of questions asked by the lead teacher. In this way, he quickly overcomes the initial embarrassment that can occur when speaking and gives him confidence in conversations outside of school.
